Question: Dearest Luise: I have heard about herbal aphrodisiacs for women, but I’m wondering…do herbs for improving your sex life really work? I am going on 60 and have all of a sudden lost my sex drive. I have had a wonderful sex life with my husband up until the last year. He is 10 years younger than I am and I have feared this time in my life. I am just wondering if you went through this? I know this is quite personal, so you don’t have to reply by telling me all about your love life…I would just like to know if you found any help in this area. Thanks, Marsha
Answer: Dear Marsha: Oh shoot, are you sure you don’t want me to tell you all about my love life? (Just kidding!)
I don’t think it is wise to approach this problem by self-diagnosing and self-prescribing. Finding the right natural whole herb is something I would ask a good Naturopath, who also works closely with a good Herbologist, about. Find someone who comes highly recommended and who will listen to you and work with you.
There are general health issues you may need to look into like diet and exercise to build a foundation for the return of your libido. Certainly you are wise to see this as something you are unwilling to accept and just learn to live with. What’s different now than last year? Have you been ill or had excessive stress? The correct herbal remedy will need to address the whole picture.
I have to tell you that while I was researching your question on-line, I was highly entertained by an ad for Horny Goat Weed for men and women. I know this isn’t funny, but you may have a good laugh or two as you work your way through it.
So, I sincerely suggest that you proceed with caution. Again, I want to emphasize that I feel you should find a good consultant who knows and understands the issues at hand and can lead you through the minefield of herbal aphrodisiacs for women that are out there to the one that is right for you. Blessings, Luise
