Question: Dear Luise: Hi from Texas Luise: I have recently purchased a vintage travel trailer I am sure it is a orphan. I have no numbers anyplace on this little thing. But I did find three of the original tags “PHOENIX” HECKAMAN MFG. INC. NAPPANEE, IND. It is a rectangular black tag. There is two more, larger tags that has the bird the name Phoenix and smaller print Nappanee, Indiana. Both are broken but I will try to put one back together again. The big black PHOENIX tag in the top front middle is still there. In good shape. Also I have one oval tag that states AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF TRAVEL TRAILER & CAMPER MF’RS INC. I found a HECKAMAN MODULAR HOMES website. I am going to contact them and see if there is any information anywhere about these camper. Mine is a 1961 but that is all I can offer to anyone doing the same thing I am doing with no good solid info. Thanks M.
Answer: Dear M.: I would also write to the Chamber of Commerce at Nappanee and ask if they have any history or know of anyone you could contact for more data. Blessings, Luise
hi my husband and i recently purchased a phoenix travel trailer we have no idea of the year make or model we do know from some stickers on the inside door that it was used in 69 but as to how old we don’t know we are trying to figure where a vin number is located so we could possibly get a title to it if u know please let us know we have tried to locate the mfg only we haven’t been successful and if u have any idea how to get a title for it we would appreciate it. T.
T. Remove the rust from the tongue and the paint and sand it carefully. Sometime the Vin is embedded there or on the front beam.
HI
My wife and I just purchased a 69″ Phoenix Travel Trailer but can find nothing about it online. I believe the model is the “Caribbean” did you find any info on these? Please email me back at brang2u@gmail.com Steve Brang
I don’t have anything on it but am publishing this in case someone else does. That happens here sometimes and is worth a try.
Hello! I also have a 1968 Phoenix Rally Camper. Trying to get it registered and can’t find a lick of info on it. I am about to sand down the tounge and if that doesn’t work…dancing through the DMV lines it is. I would greatly appreciate ANY info on my baby. There is just so little out there about these little gems!

They do have a facebiok page with a Carabean (? Spelling.) shown on it. Donna K July 5, 2016
My father was a dealer for Phoenix travel trailers and truck campers in the 1960’s.
I do have several Phoenix brochures. As nearly as I can determine, they are from the ’63-’66 era.
I would be glad to scan them and send scans to anyone interested. (no charge, unless I am swamped with requests, which I doubt.)’
We lived in suburban Indianapolis and about once a month my dad and I would get up in the wee hours on a Sat. morning and drive to Nappanee to get a camper or trailer and drive back home.
Sometime around 66 Mr. Heckaman decided to start building manufactured housing and sold the camper business to an associate named Stutzman. The name of the product at that time was changed to Overland and a few years later to Overall after complaints from some remnants of the old Overland automobile company.

Hi Allen, I looked at a vintage Phoenix travel trailer today. I made an offer and am waiting (and hoping) to hear back. I have been wanting an old camper to restore. I have a vision. My husband and I were taking a nice long drive and nearly wreck the car when we saw one just sitting in the yard. I am so hoping they will sell it to me. it is in bad shape but I know with some TLC I can save it. I had never heard of the Phoenix brand until today. Shasta’s and Scotty’s seem to be the more popular ones…but this little Phoenix is the same era an same charm. I would absolutely love to have the information you have. I wish I had taken a picture of it. You can email me at sandradkl@yahoo.com. Thank you so much!! Danita
Allen,
I would appreciate any info you could send on the 1963 Phoenix trailer. I have one the I want to get close to original with perhaps a few tweaks and a scanned brochure would certainly be helpful.

Hi,
I just bought a 65(?) Phoenix. If you still check this, I would be interested in any scans of literature you have. he_whoknows@hotmail.com
Also, after an exhaustive search, I found where the vin is, or most likely where you might find it.
VIN# (stamped with die/hammer) found on the coupling of the tongue, just left of the crank on the top. On my trailer, the coupling is a separate piece that was welded to the trailer. If you are looking down, the number starts at the left edge of the coupling near where it meets the tongue and runs toward the front. I had to scrape it down to the original meter to read it. 1 coat of paint would almost cover it up completely.
The vin consists of 3 sets of numbers, xx xxx65 xxxxx . I assume that the 65 I found may reference the year model.
My husband and I have a 1960 we think, phoenix camper made in Nappanee In. We have not found any information online about them. Could u please email any information that you may have to genzdell@gmail.com if you don’t mind? Thanks so much.
If you have any information on 1967 phoenix I would love to view it. We are going to restore one as well. If not a 67′ something close. I need to know the weight. I have a Ford Windstar minivan, do you recommend pulling the camper with a minivan?
THANK YOU!
We just got a 1968 Phoenix Rally Sport. It’s 14′ not counting the tongue. Our title says the weight is 3000 pounds empty weight. You posted a year ago. Hope this site is still active… Any other web sites or tips?? Thank you….Donna & Doug Kenny in Southern Virginia

I just bought a slide in camper made by heckaman. Its a phoenix. It is in very good condition. I am trying to find information out about this company. if you have any further details or have any slide in brochures that you have scanned I would love to see them.
I also have a 67 Phoenix trailer. It’s not the typical can ham shape. It has a humpback. I’ve been renovating it on and off for about a year now. I wasn’t able to find a vin number but it was registered as a Tenn. utility trailer. I haven’t found any information except what is posted my Mr. Zimmerman. ANy insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jan
Jan Tucker-
Where did you find your serial number?
If anyone has the brochure on the Phoenix trailer, I would appreciate any info I could get. We are looking to restore a 1967 model. Thank you.
Hi Allen, This a 2018 posting is in request of the phoenix camper brochures you have. I would appreciate any help you can give me. I believe our little camper is a Phoenix. It has a phoenix bird on the front that has a level in it. There was also one on the side for leveling, but it is gone and just the image of the bird remains. I am totally confused about other things we have found in the camper and on the tongue. It is definitely a 13′ without the tongue canned ham, aluminum on the top sides and sky or ocean blue on the bottom sides. We have started restoring and just are not sure if it is a Phoenix, a Thunderbird or a Cree vintage camper. I could go on and on with questions. I live in Western Pennsylvania and can find no help around our area. Thank you so much for any insight and any brochures. Keep blessed!
Hello Luise
I recently purchased a 1966 Mobile Scout and would like to know who to contact about the thin metal siding to match the original, Thanks
Mrs. Volta,
My husband recently purchased a 1965 Phoenix 15ft camper(Pull Behind). I have looked all over the Web and can find nothing. I read where you wrote that you had some info on them. If it is not to much to ask, could you please email or fax me something on them. I would be more than happy to pay you something for the info. We are hoping to restore her back to her original beauty, but as it stands now it is hard to tell what that was.
Thank you. Beth
I make vintage trailer emblems and It looks like I may be able to reproduce Phoenix emblems. If there is any interest for this please contact me at

Looking at a 1971 15′ Phoenix RV. Asking $6,000. Is that reasonable? Needs new tires, no appliances, steps are missing, fixer upper but decent condition. Claims there are no water leaks. Please advise.
I wouldn’t take a chance on it. Leaks sometimes don’t show and dry rot can be present. The unit would be hard to give away if it was free, it seems to me. Blessings, Luise
I am looking at buying a 1967 phoenix can you tell me if there is a website to find the manual or any information on it? Like the weight, how to replace items for it and such? I am going to gut it but I still would like to know how much it weight to confirm my van can pull it.
Thank you so much!!
Hi, I know this is old, but do you still have scans of the brochures? I have a 66 Phoenix and am looking for more information. My email is shawnleevoss@gmail.com . Thanks!
I purchased a camper last year that I was told was a 1968 Phoenix camper. There was no title with the camper and when I pursued the tiltlewith the Secretary of State for a new one, I found it was registeredpreviouslyand it was actually a 1965. I have searched many sites and have not found any literature on it. If anyone have any literature, I would appreciate anything you have.i am also trying to find replacement emblems for both the front and back. If anyone knows how I could replace them, I would appreciate the advise!
John
Hi! I know this thread is pretty old but I’m hoping that someone might have information on my 1968 Phoenix Cyprus 19 ft. I found all the original Manuels for all the appliances in my trailer and registration papers from 1971 on that how I found the model make. But otherwise nada! I did find out the vin is 5 numbers. That I found out through the DMV. Any information would be great! Thank you
Hi. I’m wondering about tire size for a 1962 camper. I think it’s 16′ long.
