Should I Move Back There?

Question: Dear Luise; MY ‘SON’S WIFE BECAME HYSTERICAL WHEN I SPOKE OF MOVING BACK TO THE SAME STATE WHICH TOOK ME COMPLETELY BY SURPRISE AS I ALWAYS GOT ON SO WELL WITH HER YES MY SONS BECAME SEPARATED AFTER THE DIVORCE I WAS HEARTBROKEN BUT HE WANTED TO LIVE W HIS DAD AS HE DIDN’T LIKE WHERE I WAS LIVING WITH HIS SIBLING I WAS WRONG BUT DIDN’T REALIZE IT AT THE TIME SHE SAID THINGS THAT HAPPENED TO MY SON THAT I NEVER HEARD B4 AS HIS DAD WAS NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE CONTACT W/ME HIS NEW WIFE WLD NOT ALLOW HIM. MY SON IS VERY SUCCESSFUL AND HAS LOVELY CHILDREN OF HIS OWN I NOW FEEL I SHLD NOT MOVE BACK I AM 75 YRS OLD & JUST WANT PEACE BUT ALL OF MY FAMILY LIVES IN THE SAME STATE, I WAS NOT IN A POSITION TO MOVE B4 & I am financialy independent PLEASE PLEASE HELP I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. D.

Answer: Dear D.: No one person should have the power to stop you from making your own decision about moving. That’s the first thing that comes up for me. On the other hand moving takes a lot of energy and often expectations are not met and former security is forfeited. I would think long and hard before I did it.
