Should I Give Up my Pound Puppy

Question: Dear Luise: I have a thirty year-old “Pound Puppy” that I play with daily and sleep with at night but I have been told to cut it up and burn it because of allergies and asthma. Should this be done to avoid my health problems from getting worse? I also am wondering how to stop thumb sucking as a result of using the Pound Puppy all my life? It is dirty and I won’t wash it except for when I see that the old, dirty, Pound Puppy needs a good cleaning. E.

Answer: Dear E.: What an old, old friend your Pound Puppy is. I don’t think I would ever cut it up. I think I would make a little place for it to sleep and keep it. We are talking best friends, here.

I suppose it is time to create some kind of a replacement, however, for reasons of sanitation and needing non-allergic materials. Do you know anyone who could make you one? If not, go shopping and see how close you can come to the original. It could be an adventure for you to find a new friend.

I don’t know what to tell you about the thumb sucking. I am not sure I would do anything about it. Others probably wouldn’t agree with me about that but if it brings you comfort and there are no health concerns…what the heck. Blessings, Luise
