Answer: Dear S.: I have no information available on that make. It is what is called and “orphan”, no longer in production. Instructions and parts are rarely if ever to be found when it’s been over 40 years since it was made. There is, however, always a chance that someone will read your post here who has some data available and will answer. Lets give it a shot. You can also try www.TinCanTourist.com .

Question: Dear Luise: I can not find the vini # on a 32 foot country aire travel trailer. Please advise if possible. My manual says on left side of tongue but nothing there. C.

Answer: Dear C.: Often it is done by stamping the tongue so the Vin in recessed. If ithe tongue is painted over or even rusty, it can be hard to find. If either is the case, use pain remover and very fine sandpaper and then feel with you fingers. Also some manuals don’t cover all models and it is on the front cross bar where the tongue is attached…anyplace on that support. The same thing applies there regarding paint and/or rust. Blessings, Luise

Answer: Dear R: Some people have removed the paint on the tongue and carefully sanded the rust and have found a VIN indented into the metal. A few have done the same thing on the front cross bar of the frame. Neither is guaranteed but it’s worth a try. Also, you can ask your question on www.tincantourist.com Someone there might be able to help. Blessings, Luise

Question: Dear Luise: please tell me where is the vin number locate at on a 1984 sportsmen camper. I asked earlier but you might have been busy, it’s getting dark soon and I need to locate it before husband goes to bed. L.

Answer: Dear L. I’m afraid my turnaround time here is not what you needed. I still had to put you ahead of nine other people.

If you are talking about my definition of a camper it is a unit you put in the bed of a pickup. The last one I had didn’t require a VIN number or license because they were considered personal property not vehicles. If you are referring to a travel trailer, some people call then campers, there has never been any standardization regarding VIN numbers, unfortunately. I have found them on the tongue and on the front crossbar support, but not always. Sometimes besides paint, there’s rust that needs to be removed. Good luck. Blessings, Luise

Question: Dear Luise: I’m a 52 yr young single woman. I have more recently become interested in RVing. The idea just really appeals to me. One I think because I think it can be Fun and if I travel and take up some kind of work on the rd it can be very doable financely. At least from what I’ve read. I guess my question is How realistic is this? I have no savings to work with {long story} Also I not thrilled about traveling all alone just because I love people I understand there are groups,to go with but I ‘d like that person next to me to talk too along the journey. I am also seriously considering living full time in a camper set up in a park for a yr or so to live cheaper. With the idea this would hopefully give me a bit of a cushion to syart out with. I came across your site & thought You would be the perfect person to ask & throw arround my idea! Tks a bunch! A.

Answer: Dear A.: Since I have been off the road for a while, I would like to suggest that you join the Escapees at www. Escapees.com/ They will offer you current answers to all of your questions and many you haven’t thought to answer. They have many sub-groups like women only and working women. It’s a camper-owned club not a commercial adventure and they have a marvelous camping club in Livingston, TX.

Please also go to www.portsusancamping.org for another prototype of a camping club where you could live for a while and maybe use later as a home base.

Lastly read “RV Travel Tales: Women’s Journeys in The Open Road” by J. Hall and “Full Time RVing: How to Make It Happen” by S, Minshell. Amazon has both. Blessings, Luise

Question: Dear Luise: I have an old Pathfinder mobil home out of Spencer, Wisconson that has no tag for serial # the tongue has been removed, the wiring replaced and the water heater area removed. All the logical places to find a serial #. The problem is I can’t get insurance on my land without it. The only thing I can find is a MHMA TCA regisiterd #1460507 any way to find the serial # from this? B.

Answer: Dear B.: The VIN number is usually what’s required. Sometimes it’s impressed into the metal of the outside of the cross brace that the tongue is attached to because of the practice of removing the tongue. It’s a terrible place to try to get to. You have to remove the paint and carefully sand it to find the indentations. And it’s a long shot.

Often the serial number becomes useless when the manufacturer goes out of business. Records are not kept indefinitely. I would ask the person who is going to sell you insurance for some help. He’s going to make a sale and get many renewals if you do business with him. My experience with the DMV has been varied. It seems to depend on the person who waits on you…some can get pretty tired and disinterested…while others will move heaven and earth for you. Good luck, Luise

Question: Dear Luise: What is the value of a 1977 26′ Argosy travel trailer in very good condition? M.

Answer: Dear M.: When they are that old, the value is pretty much in the eyes of the beholder. I figured what mine cost and what I had put into it and got what I asked for it on Craig’s List. The right person has to see it and appreciate it. The ones in good condition are becoming more and more scarce. Pick a price that is reasonable like I did and stick with it. Blessings, Luise

Answer: Dear C.: Look for the VIN number for Vehicle Identification. Remove the rust and paint on the tongue and front cross bar, sand lightly and feel the surface for the indented number. It doesn’t always work but often it does. Blessings, Luise

Question: Dear Luise: I am having a great difficulty in finding information about a 1969 Pathfinder. One of my friends grandparents was going to sell it to my fiance and I. everything is working and original pretty close to mint condition. It has the gas, ford 330 bus engine in it, and only 40,000 miles on it. They said they would be willing to let it go for 1500.00 to us, as a early wedding gift. My question is, Is that worth it? it has new tires. But as I searched online for it, It doesn’t seem to be listed anywhere, or any similar to it. I don’t think that its quite a 24′ long one, it seems much shorter. I hope someone on here can help me. Thank you kindly. Sincerely D.

Answer: Dear D.: There is not much reliable criteria going back that far. It is well worth the price, since it is in such good condition and has low mileage.

The only drawback that I am aware of is that you will have trouble finding parts and will probably have to settle for used parts. In addition, you may not be able find mechanics who want to work on it. If you are mechanical, that would help.

For the right person, it would be perfect but only you can decide whether that’s you or not. Blessings, Luise
