What am I Supposed to Do
Question: Dear Luise: Just bought a Franklin Travel Trailer, approx 21′ long, sleeps 6, no idea of age but looks like 1970’s from the decor. Got a notarized bill of sale but need to find a VIN# in order to register it in state of NJ. We looked everywhere, or we think we have…the tongue, inside cabinets. I have no idea where else to look and of course motor vehicle is of no help. What am I suppose to do chalk up a loss?? Junk it?? I don’t think so. I do have a plate that is to a old pop up that I’ll use in the meantime, as long as we obey the law!! I would feel more comfortable with a VIN#. Franklin Motor Coach was hit by tornado and is just starting to rebuild so there isn’t the option of calling or a website, I’ve tried that. S.
Answer: Dear S. Since you are in luck regarding the manufacturer still being in business, I would wait out their mop-up and reorganization and then contact them.
In the meantime you could crawl around under the frame, if there’s room, scraping away dirt and using a head light and a magnifying glass to see what you might find but it might be nothing and it sure doesn’t sound like much fun.
With old trailers, it’s “let the buyer beware”…but I agree with you on this one…hang in there! Blessings, Luise
