How Do I Get Him Back
Question: DEAR LUISE: OK… SORRY IF THIS GETS A LITTLE LONG. WELL, THIS PAST SUMMER I MET THIS BOY AND HE HAD A GIRLFRIEND. WE BECAME REALLY CLOSE FRIENDS. HE WAS HELPING ME OUT WITH A GUY I WAS DATING AT THE TIME AND THAT JUST MADE US BECOME EVEN CLOSER. THEN WE DECIDED WE LIKED EACH OTHER AND ONE NIGHT WE HUNG OUT UNTIL SEVEN IN THE MORNING. AND HE KISSED ME. THEN HE BROKE UP WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND OF TWO YEARS. AND ME AND HIM DATED ALL SUMMER. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN AND I KNOW HE REALLY LIKED ME A LOT. THEN THE SUMMER WAS OVER AND HE BROKE UP WITH ME TO GO BACK TO HIS EX. AND IT BROKE MY HEART. HE SAID ME AND HIM SHOULDNT TALK ANYMORE. AND I KEPT ON CALLING AND CRYING. I KNOW IT JUST PUSHED HIM MORE AWAY. WE ENDED UP GETTING INTO A LOT OF FIGHTS OVER STUPID THINGS LIKE ME BEING MEAN TO HIS EX GIRLFRIEND. WHEN I WOULD CALL HE WOULD TELL ME TO GET OUT OF HIS LIFE. I HAVENT TALKED TO HIM IN ABOUT A MONTH NOW. IT’S SO HARD. ITS BEEN 8 MONTHS AND IM STILL CRAZY ABOUT HIM. AND HE IS STILL WITH THAT GIRL. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I REALLY WANT HIM BACK. I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO GET HIM BACK. RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT SENDING HIM A TEXT MESSAGE AND TELLING HIM IM SORRY FOR EVERYTHING AND I HOPE WE CAN BE FRIENDS, BUT I DONT KNOW IF THATS A GOOD IDEA. IM JUST SO CLUELESS!! B.
Answer: Dear B. Give it up…all of it…the relationship that has ended and the friendship that hasn’t gotten off the ground. You’ve burned your bridges.
Sometimes a situation like that can be seen as valuable if you allow yourself to learn something from it. Learning how to be friends…learning how to let go and move on…learning to respect the decisions of others and learning how to be kind are all lessons that will make you a happier and better-adjusted person.
You can certainly go on caring but don’t let it stop you from meeting new people. Start having fun again. Slow down and use your head. Learn from the past so the future will bring you what you most want. Dream big. Blessings, Luise
