Can You Answer My Health Question

Category: Nutrition & Health

Question: Dear Luise: I’d like you to answer my health question if you can, please. I’ve been buying some expensive professional health products through a multi-level marketing company. I love them but they are much more expensive than what I can buy at the drug store. They say the quality is so much better, but do you think our bodies really know the difference? And I would like to save some money for other things. What do you think about buying professional health products because of their brand name, versus generic products? Thanks Lucille

Answer: Dear Lucille: We, the buying public are so totally at the effect of advertising. I know there are different qualities in supplements. I have heard, and have no reason to dispute the statement, that some of them have no value at all. I would also suppose, wouldn’t you, that some are even detrimental.

I, too, have fallen for the hype of professional health products that are offered through multi-level marketing. I don’t think we can necessarily assume that they are all over priced. Yet we can’t assume all of their claims are true. It’s the not knowing that gets to us, right?

I eventually came to the point where I was no longer willing to self-prescribe. Every ad I read told me that I needed this or that. There were endless promises that I was going to a mover and a shaker once I started taking a certain supplement and veiled suggestions that I would wilt and fade if I didn’t. When I asked my M.D., he said it’s “mostly bunk”. I totally disagree with that. What to do?

The answer that worked for me was to go to a really good Naturopath. I found one that came highly recommended by someone I could trust. I was afraid I was taking all kinds of stuff I didn’t need and not taking other things that my body required, and I was right. Dosages and brand names confused me to heck and gone. What a relief to be professionally tested and managed at long last.

So there you have it. That’s my answer, for what it’s worth, to your health question about professional health products, whether multi-level or not. I’m not taking as many supplements as I used to. And since I’m spending less and feeling better, I’m a happy camper! Blessings, Luise

For months now, the sides of my lips, at the corner of my mouth, is dry and cracking. It looks red and raw. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Thank you.

Answer: Dear Gwynn: Where I live this happens in the winter. I also know someone who got an infection there. If it’s either one, and you can find any Bag Balm, that will probably take care of it. We get it in the drug store. If that doesn’t do it, you need to see a doctor. Blessings, Luise

Answer: Dear K.: The only time I have ever seen this, it was caused by bacteria. It is in a place that it can grow very easily. I would suggest scrubbing under your arms twice daily with Simple Green liquid soap and then applying Neosporin. Blessings, Luise
