East Coast Here We Come
Question: Hi Luise: You are so upbeat! Thanks for answering questions for us folks out here! Hey, I have a two-part question. Part One: Have you ever done a caravan around the US with a group of RVers? Five of us have motorhomes, and we wanted to travel as a group to visit as many East Coast Resorts as possible this summer. If you ever did that, what were the resorts like in handling groups, and how was it for you? Any tips? Part Two: The following summer we all want to do a houseboat excursion. Any ideas of where we should go? We are a wild, fun bunch, (on a quiet scale), and think this would be a great adventure! Wish you could join us! Dixie
Answer: Dear Dixie: I will write about houseboat excursions at a later date and not confuse the issue here. OK? My experience in group, motorhome travel was when I was single and belonged to the Thousand Trails “Lone Eagles” Club. We had a wonderful time caravanning!
They offer a great way to put together a trip like you are planning, if all of you have memberships. You can get reservations ahead and you can camp as a group. The costs are clearly established and the amenities are consistently comfortable and clean. You do not have to be part of their singles group if you are couples. It still works the same way.
Another way to go is for all of you join the Escapees Club and the Good Sam organization. All of these clubs have websites. The best of all worlds would be to belong to all three and come and go from one facility to another as the spirit moved you.
Now is the time for research. Join up…get your materials and study them carefully. Have some great group powwows and see how much time and money you want to invest. Check out the specific interests of each person to see what stops would be the most meaningful to all concerned. Some say that 99% of the fun is in the planning. I say 100% of the fun is forming the right group in the first place. That’s the secret. Blessings, Luise
