Shingles And The World Of Acyclovir and Prednisone
Question: Dear Luise: I am staggering under the burden of filling my body with Acyclovir and Prednisone to combat Shingles and would like some help with pain management. It is on my face, in my mouth, nose and eye. The eye is the worst, on the surface and the cornea itself. I’m off work, and able to go with this but don’t quite know how to do that. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Bernice
Answer: Dear Bernice: Your question puts you way, way out ahead. Do you realize most people would never ask that? Most people would never think that!
OK. I believe where we get off base with physical symptoms is with identification. When the pain is all consuming, there is no other way. But most of the time, it isn’t constant. What happens is we get to thinking we are our sickness. Someone asks you how you are, and you reply that you are sick? It’s a very short jump from there to who you are. See? Who are you? Sick! It’s a very fine line but if you can stay behind it instead of crossing it, you will be able to be your own healer, not torturer.
We think we know. We think we need to control. We don’t have a clue. Sickness is a mystery, as is healing. There are probably many levels of both and the best thing we can possibly do is to set up a good environment and get out of the way. Check in with your doctor, or physician’s medical assistant, follow a treatment program…do whatever your personal frame of reference suggests, and then know that you don’t know where it came from or what it’s for. Step aside.
We spend a lot of time and energy and generate a lot of drama around not wanting something to be how it is. Begging, praying, demanding that symptoms pass quickly. Why not get that there is a kernel of a direction in everything that is leading to our highest and best good? What a novel concept!
Take your Acyclovir and Prednisone and see that you can also be at peace while your face is in a process. Try it. Rest, read if you can, listen to music, email a friend. Give yourself the goodies of love and loving and let the Shingles run their course and bring their lesson. Then, rejoice! Blessings, Luise
