RV Laundry With Wonderwash Or Cyclone Washmate
Question: Hi Luise: I love taking trips in our Coleman Camper, and I would really like your opinion about the Wonderwash and Cyclone Washmate. Have you ever tried using a small, tabletop washing machine? I don’t like to take all my personal clothing to the Laundromat, and was wondering what your experience was regarding washing clothes while on the road. I found the Wonderwash on the web at www.laundry-alternative.com/ Thanks, Billy Lu
Answer: Dear Billy Lu: A lot of people who can afford to are by-passing this whole issue by buying one of the grand, new RVs that have the Splendid Washer/Dryer built in. I never made it that far up the food chain, so I’ve squandered many hours in Laundromats over the years. If you can go the grand route, the women I’ve talked with say it’s like dying and going to heaven!
The answer I eventually settled for was to find a local Laundromat that had a washing/drying service. I dropped my stuff off and picked it up later, all done. Yes, I know that’s the chicken way out but it works!
I have heard of both of the units mentioned above and they have plus and minus points to consider. You need to know that your jeans, sweatshirts, sheets and towels are not going to work in them. They are for underwear, lightweight blouses and shirts, dishtowels…things like that. They work very well within those parameters. The down side is that they are large and take up valuable room. Each person has to decide about storage priorities. Since you have a tent trailer, if you pull it with a pickup you may have some space available.
If you can stand to wear synthetics, they wash and dry much better than cottons. Drying is also an issue. You will really need a portable dryer, and the best one I know of is the Home Pride. A hand wringer also decreases drying time.
So, why not hit the web and research the Wonderwash, the Cyclone Washmate and the Home Pride Portable Clothes Dryer? Then, measure your available storage and see where you might tuck them in, (unless that space is for someone’s fishing gear!) Blessings, Luise
