Looking At Diesel Class C Motorhomes
Question: Dear Luise: We notice that just about everyone that writes to you proudly tells you what kind of a rig they have…but we are still in the stage of looking at diesel class C motorhomes. When we find one, we plan to get a home equity loan on our place, give most of our stuff to our kids, and retire pretty conservatively on the rent. We’re not into material belongings and think full-time RVing ought to work for us. We just read the answer you wrote to Bill, and are curious to know more about how we could use our motor home as a nursing home, if and when the need came about. This concept is really new to us. You mean there are senior RV parks created to support the aging in living in their own RVs until the end of their lives? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Can you tell us more? Thanks, Cecilia
Answer: Dear Cecilia: People are proud of their RVs, aren’t they? I would suggest you seriously investigate the Bigfoot, 4000 Series, Diesel Class C Motorhome with the GM Kodiak 5500 Chassis. In my opinion, it’s stands alone in features and power.
Yes, I think it takes a certain kind of person to leave all the comforts of home behind and hit the road as a full-time RVer. Even many of the really nice RVs cost less than a big kitchen remodel, these days. Really! But you do have to be willing to downsize and adapt, that’s true. If you can…oh, the fun…the freedom…the adventures…and the wonderful new friends that await!
You specifically asked for more information about aging RVers and I can tell you that I know of only one facility that has established a way for them to stay in their RVs when assisted care or a nursing home is actually indicated. It’s the brainchild of the Escapees Club, as I mentioned before. Many of their members have donated money and volunteered their time to make it work. It’s in Livingston, Texas at the Escapees Club headquarters. There’s a lot of information about it at www.escapees.com , under Escapees Care, Inc. For $800. a month, single, or $900. , double, you get your site, three meals a day and the care you need, as I understand it…even if there’s dementia. There are some limitations of course. I think it’s totally amazing, even though I haven’t actually talked with anyone yet who lives there.
