I Need Advice Regarding Trusting Others

Question: Dear Luise: I am so mad and so sad! Someone who was supposed to be a friend ripped me off, big time! I don’t understand why he did it. Can you give me any advice regarding trusting others. I could sure use some. Thanks, Steve

Answer: Dear Steve: Feeling angry and sad offers you the opening you need to get on with your life. They are are authentic and painful emotions…and will help you to move through this situation. That process, however, will not bring back your stuff or restore your trust. Please spend as little time as possible trying to figure out where the perpetrator was coming form. He may not know himself, and following that line of thinking is certainly not going to serve you.

There is no foolproof way to protect yourself from such happenings in the future. Misplaced trust is a fact of life. It usually happens where you least expect it…and then trust comes someplace else, where it doesn’t even seem to be a reasonable expectation. Look closely at the circumstance to see if you were careless. If so, take that lesson to heart. Beyond that, let it go when you can. You are not your stuff. You are so much more! Blessings, Luise
