Motivation Coach Needed
Question: Hello Luise: Sure could use a motivation coach or someone who could give me some guidance on how to get motivated. Seems I spend all my time taking care of everyone else, and when it gets time to do something for me, I am too tired or afraid to try new things. I sometimes wonder if I am meant to forgo my dreams this life, or if I am afraid that if I did what I wanted to do, I would just fail so I don’t try. Any advice you could give would be great. Thanks, Nancy
Answer: Dear Nancy: I appreciate the uncomfortable situation you describe but I also have to question it at the same time. What’s going on here?
I think I would start with your current motivation, which seems to be to serve others. Would you be willing to take a closer look at that? Does it make your heart sing? Do you do it for the joy of it or to look good or because you feel comfortable in that role? Why not do a little soul-searching and see what your current motivation is. Make sense?
Are you on your list of people you want to please…if not why not? What kind of gift would you like to give your self? You speak of dreams, so maybe now’s a good time to look at them more closely. Is there a hobby you’d like to pursue, a class you’d like to take or something you’d really like to stop doing? (I gave up cleaning house!)
Failure is part of life. Have you seen that to be true? There is no 100% success ratio for anyone anywhere. Some of us were led to believe that we should and could be the exception to the rule. Nada.
Where does adventure lie for you? It can sneak up from behind sometimes. I went into a ceramic shop a few years ago to buy a dragon. The lady said she could cast me one and show me how to paint it. I laughed and told her I didn’t have an artsy-craftsy bone in my body and left. But I went back. And I took the task on. Later I won an award at a ceramics art show for my dragon. Wouldn’t it have been sad if I had seriously listened to my self-imposed limitations and beliefs?
Why not take some time to become your own motivation coach? Write down your ideas and then brainstorm with friends. Open some doors for your self, follow yourself through those doors and have fun doing it. Blessings, Luise
