Senior RV Camping: Looking Into Motorhome Leasing And Trailer Rentals
Choosing a rig is something you don’t want to do in a hurry, so we are great advocates of motorhome leasing or leasing a travel trailer. Prior to our marriage, at ages 62 and 78, my husband’s RV experience was pulling a small travel trailer with a heavy car while mine involved driving a small motor home. Neither of us knew what we wanted but we did know that we were a long way from being buyers.
There’s always a great deal to learn. We started out by checking local newspaper ads describing specific units like the one that read 1990 Fleetwood Travel Trailer For Sale. Then we looked under more generally worded headings such as Class A Motor Homes and Luxury Motorhomes For Sale By Owners. (If we were doing it now, we would use the web extensively, of course.) With those first tentative inquiries, we could feel the excitement start to build and knew, without a doubt, that our future adventures had been launched!
We found our research to be fun…calling individuals and dealers on the phone, driving around looking at all kinds of rigs, talking with friends and neighbors. We soon decided we wanted to stay with the more familiar makes, since parts and repairs are a necessary side of RV maintenance.
Leasing or renting seemed the best way to get the feel of what we were looking for without making a costly mistake. In our area we had a lot to choose from. We soon gravitated toward motor homes for the simple reason that we didn’t have any thing to pull a trailer with at that time. We were willing to remedy that, but our first inclination was to simplify.
Trying out our wings with a rig that wasn’t ours proved to be wise. We soon learned that Class A units don’t have a bed over the cab like Class C rigs do. To offset that, most Class As have driving/riding seats that turn around and became comfortable living room chairs. In RVing, double use and space allocation is everything.
We bought books and magazines and devoured them, amazed at how many makes and models were available and how diversified they were. Finally, we couldn’t put it off any longer. After choosing motorhome leasing, we specifically selected a 26 foot Monaco motorhome, and like two excited kids heading off to kindergarten for the first time, we hit the road.
