Finding the Hope in the Message

Question: Dear Luise: I am sending a comment to you-First, let me thank you for all of your time, effort, and strength you share with us. Your wisdom is priceless! I read one of your responses re loss of a son-I read you lost your son to sleep apnea a number of years ago-I am so sorry.  I was DX with sleep apnea a couple years ago-that was when I lost my son as well (in a different way)-he moved out w/i days, and his girlfriend smirked at me as I tried to share with them the grief of the DX.  Several of my family members have since been DX-My son and his GF have said I am ‘just crazy.’ There are so many things beyond our understanding-we must somehow look for the message and find the hope that can change our lives and maybe someone else’s-Shalom. J.

Answer: Dear J.: Thank you for your kind remarks and observations. I really appreciate positive feedback.

Ten years ago, when I lost my eldest son to sleep apnea, it was viewed as a minor inconvenience that interrupted sleep and disturbed others. That’s the least of it! I’m so sorry you have to deal with it, too…and are misunderstood in the process. It’s no joke…it’s lethal!

About Luise Volta

Luise’s long life has brought her to being the great grandmother of four teenagers. Born in 1927, the miles in between her teens and theirs have been full of falling and getting up, learning and growing and then falling and getting up again. A normal, though not simple, process. She has had diverse careers in nursing, teaching preschool, interior design, Real Estate sales, insurance adjusting and dairy herd testing. She’s lived in the Mid-west, South and West Coast. Luise is married to the love of her life, Val, born in 1911. Their little terrier, “Rosa,” makes most of the major decisions at their house, (or thinks she does).
