Question: Dear Luise: My father recently passed away and i have been having a very difficult time adjusting even though i am an adult child. In the midst of all of this, my daughter-in-law and my mother and i attended a wedding shower. i just noticed that whenever we attend these kind of affairs she does not seem to want to sit with us. I looked around the room and other families were sitting together, mothers and daughters and even another mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. her mother lives out of state, but when her mother has come to town and we have attended an affair, my son and her sat with her parents, asking them to save them a seat. She has never asked me to save her a seat at affairs with other people. i don’t know if i am just being ridiculous because of all that is going on, but i felt hurt, wondering why she appears to not want to be seen with us in public as having a good relationship. this seems to dredge up old feelings, because before her and my son were married, there was a get acquainted brunch/tea with the bridal party and the wedding planner, i thought it was just going to be them i later found out that her mother was there also, but i was not invited.
