Question: Dear Luise: I have a really hard time in gym, especially with my crazy gym teacher! She makes us run for 5 minutes straight (Which is hard for most people in my class – especially those with Asthma, which I think I might have) If somebody even stops for one second my gym teacher either makes that person sit out and gives them a 0 (for not participating) or makes us run an extra 2 – 5 minutes! Also, if our shoelace comes untied she makes us sit out and gives us a 0 (for not being ‘prepared’ and not tying our shoelaces!) So, if I want to participate and not get a ’0′ I have to run with the possibility of tripping and hope she doesn’t see! Also, if we really need to take a quick break from running and we glance over to make sure she isn’t looking, she sees us and totally flips on us. She screams throughout the whole class period saying things like “YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN FOR 5 MINUTES!!!” and “IF YOU CANT DO A SIMPLE WARM UP YOUR LEVEL OF FITNESS IS HORRIBLE!!” and stuff that really makes us feel like we are the most unfit people in the world. She treats us like garbage! She says “AND YOU CAN TELL YOUR PARENTS ALL THIS TOO! I DON’T CARE!!!” When I told my dad he said he didn’t want to get into this. When I told my mom all she did was say “That’s wrong!” I’m even afraid to talk to my gym teacher sometimes! Sometimes, I fake sick so she might go easier on me or take my contact out and ask to go to the nurse (which is wrong, I know but I seriously can’t stand gym with her!) What should I do? E.
Answer: Dear E.: I would hang on until school is out and then I would get a physical to find out if I had asthma. I would run regularly during the summer…making sure my shoes were tied and I would pray a lot that I didn’t get her next year. What a witch! Blessings, Luise
