Where Can I Find Toyota Sunrader Parts?

Question: Dear Luise: We have a 1987 Sunrader Motorhome. The door knob/lock on the “house-door” is broken and can no longer be locked. The only ID on that item is “ASI, Anaheim, CA, 015869″ I notice the same lock was used on the Sunrader for several years. I would like to find the door/lock set so it can be replaced. There may be one somewhere on a scrapped Sunrader. I can’t find anything on the company that made the lock. Any suggestions. B.

Answer: Dear B.: The thing that’s needed when you are dealing with an old and obsolete RV is a supportive community where knowledge (and parts) can be shared.

It may take a while to find one that has the focus you require but I would start with www.toyotamotorhomes.com It’s a comprehensive site with a message board forum. The Sunrader is featured there along with all of the other units that Toyota put on their chassis. The one-ton was their greatest success because it could climb with the best of them.

See what you can find via a parts search on their board for the specific lock you need and also ask others what they might have done to solve the problem in a more innovative way if none was to be found. Ask if anyone knows of someone who is parting out a Sunrader or of any specialty junkyards focusing on motorhomes.

Your research will stand you in good stead. This will probably happen again. Maintenance is an ongoing issue with vintage units and you will know where to go and who to contact.the next time you’re backed into a corner.

I’m in the process of creating www.VintageRVForum.com but it’s not ready to launch. You may want to keep an eye on this site for that eventuality when it is announced. Blessings, Luise
