Lost 5th Wheel VIN

Question: Dear Luise: We have purchased a old coachman fifth wheel trailer; think it is a 1972 model, 30 ft. and can not find the VIN number anywhere. Any idea where to look and how long is the number? Owner can not find paper work. J.

Answer: Dear J. I would ask for my money back if the unit can’t be documented but that’s just my point of view.

My guess is that the VIN is stamped into the metal on the hitch…which may have been painted over to cover rust. I’d start there, if you have to, with paint remover and light sanding…looking for an impression.

You can look at your car title to get a concept of what a VIN looks like. Blessings, Luise
