How’s the Weater at Port Susan

Question: Dear Luise: I presently live in Oregon (originally from California) and am considering joining Port Susan Camping Club. My question is, “How is the weather?”  I am having trouble adjusting to the rain and “gloom” and I was wondering if the Stanwood/Marysville area gets any sun? Thank you in advance for your reply. B.

Answer: Dear B.: Washington is the Ever-rain…Opps!…Evergreen State. (Same difference.)

The only exception is around Sequim, which is called the Banana Belt. I don’t know of any camping clubs there but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. You could write their Chamber of Commerce and ask.

The Stanwood/Marysville area has some very dry summers but occasionally a very wet one.

Port Susan is worth it to me but a lot of people are snowbirding it because of the rain and “gloom.” My son, for instance, spends five months…Late Spring, Summer and Early Fall…at Port Susan and lives on Kauai for the other seven months of the year because he is adversely affected by the dark, wet days. (He was born in CA. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?)
His business is in his laptop, so he hauls it back and forth.

I think it would be worth a visit to Port Susan for you to get a feel for it, if you haven’t done that. <!– /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:”"; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:9.5pt; font-family:Arial; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} –> There are many, beautiful, second growth evergreens so some lots are dark but you can also find open ones that let the sun in. My husband and I just loved it. Blessings, Luise

About Luise Volta

Luise’s long life has brought her to being the great grandmother of four teenagers. Born in 1927, the miles in between her teens and theirs have been full of falling and getting up, learning and growing and then falling and getting up again. A normal, though not simple, process. She has had diverse careers in nursing, teaching preschool, interior design, Real Estate sales, insurance adjusting and dairy herd testing. She’s lived in the Mid-west, South and West Coast. Luise is married to the love of her life, Val, born in 1911. Their little terrier, “Rosa,” makes most of the major decisions at their house, (or thinks she does).
